Michaela Ewuraba Boakye-Collinson (Michaela Coel) is a breakthrough talent in the entertainment industry. With writing, directing and acting achievements under her belt, she has tapped into her personal experiences to present very relatable and very real content through a variety of mediums.

Coel is best known for the creating and starring in the absolutely hilarious and awkward sitcom Chewing Gum. Inspired by her senior graduation project, Chewing Gum lead Coel to score a BAFTA. Plus, it’ll make you laugh and shield your eyes with a perfect dose of second-hand embarrassment all at the same time.

As the writer, producer, creator co-director and lead actress in the drama/comedy I may destroy you, Coel brought to the table an ever-important story inspired by her own experience of sexual assault.

These two projects are only scraping the surface of Coel’s arsenal of work. Coel’s rise has been a triumphant testament to the importance of creative independence and the power personal story telling can hold.
